Damon Runyon Fellowship Award

CPI has partnered with Damon Runyon Research Foundation to promote research relevant to the development of molecular approaches (such as drugs and vaccines) for the prevention of inherited cancers. If an applicable proposal is selected by Damon Runyon’s award selection committee and approved by the Damon Runyon Board of Directors, CPI will co-fund the Fellowship Award.

Projects considered for funding by CPI are those that have the potential to make significant contributions to the development of chemo- or immuno-prevention measures that could reduce the risk of cancer in germline mutation carriers. Discovery research that could increase the understanding of early, pre-cancer stages are also considered. CPI Research Grants to Prevent Inherited Cancer

The goal of CPI’s research grant program is to identify and provide seed funding for innovative projects that have the potential to make substantial contributions to the development of therapeutic approaches for the prevention of inherited cancers.
Our aim is to bridge funding gaps by supporting projects that may not align with the conventional criteria of established funding agencies. We are particularly interested in innovative, early-stage ideas that have the potential to open new avenues for cancer prevention research.
We welcome research ideas from individuals of all backgrounds irrespective of their professional roles. You need not be a principal investigator or a clinician to apply. If you have a novel research idea grounded in a strong scientific rationale and the potential to advance cancer prevention, we encourage you to submit an application when our next grant application cycle opens.
Application review process
Application review is a highly selective process where the projects are assessed for their scientific merit and potential impact. Applications are reviewed by CPI’s project management team, select members of CPI’s Scientific Advisory Board, and external experts in relevant fields.
The application process consists of two stages:
Letter of intent (LOI): Applicants submit a brief Letter of Intent outlining their proposed research. LOIs are evaluated based on factors including alignment with one or more of CPI’s research priorities
- innovation
- scientific significance
- feasibility
- potential for clinical translation
Full Application: Selected applicants whose projects we wish to evaluate further will be invited to submit a Full Application. Full Applications undergo a more thorough scientific and programmatic review.
Final funding decisions are made following completion of the Full Application review. Financial support for any proposal is subject to the discretion and approval of CPI’s Board of Trustees.
