Joanne Kotsopoulos is the Cancer Research Chair in Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Prevention and an Associate Professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, Canada. Dr. Kotsopoulos has dedicated her career to studying BRCA-associated breast and ovarian cancers with a focus on prevention. She seeks to provide women with a wider choice of less-invasive options to reduce their risk of breast and ovarian cancer. Her studies showing that hormonal, reproductive and modifiable exposures play an important role on BRCA-associated cancer development have provided women and healthcare providers with evidence-based management options. Her molecular research studies aim at understanding better BRCA gene and whether changing BRCA expression can be used to modulate cancer risk.
Dr. Kotsopoulos received her Ph.D. from the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Toronto, Canada, in 2007 and was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
